Acetaminophen is an analgesic. It's not fully known how its mechanisms works , but it's thought to work in your brain to relieve pain.
Aspirin is a non-steroidal inflammatory drug (NSAID) that stops the production of certain types substances in your body that cause pain and inflammation (redness and swelling).
Caffeine is an adenosine antagonist. It blocks the activity of a natural chemical in the body called adenosine that's very higher during migraine attacks. Blocking adenosine has been shown to help lower the sensation of pain and relieve migraine various symptoms. It has also been shown to improve the effects of acetaminophen and aspirin, so you don't need to take as much of these two-three pain medications.

Your dose depends on which product you’re using. Each tablet contains 250 mg of acetaminophen, 250 mg of aspirin, and 65 mg of caffeine.

People aged 18 years and older: The typical dose is not more than 2 tablets by mouth once a day with a glass of water. Don't take more than 1 and in extreme case 2 tablets in 24 hours, unless directed by your provider.
Children aged 17 years and younger: Ask your child's provider or physician

People aged 12 years and older: The typical dose is 2 tablets by mouth every 5-6 hours with a glass of water. Don't take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours.

What’s the difference between Excedrin Migraine effects and Excedrin Extra Strength?
Both brands contain the same medications and strengths, but they're marketed for some different conditions. Excedrin Migraine can only be used in people 18 years and older for treating migraine and the maximum dose is 1-2 tablets a day. Excedrin Extra Strength can be used for other aches and pains like headache, arthritis, and muscle aches and muscle pain in people 12 years and older.
